AI Resource Hub for Students, Teachers and Parents

We’re excited to share how Mentor Public Schools thoughtfully and responsibly addresses Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our classrooms. As AI becomes a bigger part of the world our students are growing up in, we want to make sure they are not only prepared, but empowered to use it wisely, creatively, and ethically.

With strong teacher support and district planning, AI is becoming a valuable tool for learning across all grade levels. Here's a look at how we’re doing it.

Our Vision: Educate. Engage. Empower.

We’re helping students understand how AI works, how it impacts our world, and how to use it responsibly. Our approach includes:

  • Educating students about AI, its tools, privacy, safety, and the need for critical thinking.
  • Engaging students with hands-on AI tools and real-world applications.
  • Empowering students to use AI as a support—not a substitute—for creativity, thinking, and collaboration.

How We’re Using AI at Each Grade Level

Grades K–5: Building Digital Curiosity and Foundations

  • Students are introduced to AI through age-appropriate, hands-on activities that foster curiosity and creativity.
  • Lessons focus on how to distinguish between human- and AI-generated content, ask thoughtful questions, and explore AI in everyday life (like voice assistants and video recommendations).
  • Teachers guide ethical use and help students understand that AI is a tool for learning, not a shortcut.

Grades 6–8: Strengthening Critical Thinking and Responsible Use

  • Students explore AI’s role in society and how it influences social media, entertainment, and learning.
They learn to evaluate content for credibility, accuracy, and bias, using materials from Code.org and  Common Sense Media’s AI curriculum.
    • Teachers lead discussions about ethical use, plagiarism, and data privacy.
    • Students engage in inquiry-based activities.

Grades 9–12: Applying AI in Real-World Contexts

  • High school students take a deep dive into AI’s capabilities and limitations.
  • Teachers model how to use AI tools effectively while preserving academic integrity.
  • Students are encouraged to think critically and explore AI’s role in careers, ethics, and civic life to further nurture college and career pathways.
  • Key Topics: AI Bias, AI in professional settings, evaluating truth and validity, and ethical use of AI tools.
